Barely a year into his new role, the Executive Director and CEO of EC World REIT’s manager, Alvin Cheng Yu-Dong, has tendered his resignation.

This is the second time the China-focused REIT’s manager is seeing a change in its top leadership since listing in July 2016.

In December 2016, the company appointed a new chief financial officer (CFO), and in April the following year, Alvin Cheng was named as the Executive Director and CEO, replacing the previous CEO which took the REIT to listing on the Singapore Exchange.

In an exclusive interview with REITsWeek last December 2017, we asked Alvin Cheng if these changes in leadership, which happened relatively soon after the REIT’s listing, are symptoms of underlying turmoil within the REIT’s management team.

Prior to joining EC World REIT, Alvin Cheng spent time in the senior management team of Lippo Malls Indonesia Retail Trust between 2010 and 2016.
